Man and Wife…. and Mattress: Urban Mattress Hosts a Wedding

The Sunday before Memorial Day was a very special day at our Urban Mattress in Boulder. We got to host a wedding! One of our own, Ken Miller, said “I do,” to the love of his life, Debbie, right in the aisles of our store.

A wedding in a mattress store you say? Roll the clocks back to 6:55pm, the day before Memorial Day 2012. Ken was working at Urban Mattress that day and was gearing up to close up shop at 7, when Debbie and her daughter walked in.  With a deep breath, letting go of going home on time, Ken walked over to see how he could help Debbie find a mattress.

What started out as nothing more than a conversation about coil counts vs. memory foam turned into an hour long conversation about their connections through the non-profit world and their pasts. Over the next few months, as they saw each other again at different meetings and eventually began to date, they watched their similar histories weave toward the same future.

Now fast forward through a year of watching their love grow, and Debbie and Ken are tying the knot. A traditional wedding just didn’t fit the bill for them, so they decided to go back to where it all started -the Sunday before Memorial Day, right before closing. So Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 6:55 pm, Debbie, in her wedding dress, and her daughter walked through the door to find Ken sitting behind the counter, ready to walk toward her and this time, not ask what type of bed she’s looking for, but instead commit his life to hers. Mattress purchases are normally centered around life-change, marriages, job changes, moves, babies, college, etc…Every once and a while we get to share in those special moments that change people’s lives and for that we are thankful.
